Collection: Of The Nereides

The Nereides were fifty sea-nymphs and the  daughters of Nereus, the old man of the sea.

The Nereides were the living embodiment of the ocean itself, from the salty spray to the crashing waves. Each Nereid possessed a unique aspect of the sea, from the graceful currents, the salty brine, the sand, the currents, the fierce bite of the tide, and also the various skills that the sailors and fishermen possessed.

Their knowledge of the ocean's moods, as vast as their father's wisdom, made them invaluable allies for anyone who dared the waves, often protecting sailors or guiding lost vessels or calming the raging seas.

The name Nereides means "Daughters of Nereus" but also "the Wet Ones" from nêros the Greek word for "wet".

For this collection, we focused on just three of these fifty goddesses, Melite; the nereid of the calm seas, Neso; the nereid of the islands, and Dione; the divine.
